Hubzone Facts
A HUBZone is a geographical area of the US that has high unemployment, low wages, or both. The SBA certifies HUBZone firms that:
- Are owned by American citizens
- Have their largest office located in a HUBZone
- Employ (and will continue to employ) at least 35% of their employees who live in a HUBZone
- Are a small business per SBA definitions
The purpose of the HUBZone Program is to focus Federal Contracting resources to create jobs and promote economic development in the areas of the US where poverty exists decade in and decade out--in our HUBZones! HUBZone firms receive contracting preferences such as being able to compete in HUBZone set-asides.
Today 35 million Americans live below the poverty level and more than 8 million workers are unemployed-the HUBZone Program creates real job opportunities for these Americans. The HUBZone Program is the only Federal contracting program that targets hiring those Americans on welfare and the unemployed.
Nationwide, there are 11,000+ HUBZone firms. Collectively, HUBZone contracting can begin to reduce poverty in America and give every American a shot at the American dream!
