Case Study: IT & Management Consulting - Freddie Mac
Summary
Fairfield Technologies Inc. provided business and management consulting services for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac)’s Single Family Division, the organization with line business responsibility for single-family loan operations and management, focusing on specific program areas with the Infrastructure Management Group that required our services.
Fairfield Technologies personnel provided management and information technology consulting to Freddie Mac in four major areas:
- Information Quality Program Development and Implementation - The goal of this program was to provide Freddie Mac’s Single Family Division with a solid business program for defining, measuring, and evaluating the quality of data used for making business decisions relating to division performance. FTI personnel worked with group management and corporate policy-making specialists to help identify business processes, policies, and metrics used to evaluate the quality of information used in business decision-making; information was gathered using requirements gathering meetings, facilitated sessions, and written memos and questionnaires. FTI evaluated and integrated the information collected, and used it to develop management guidance for organizing and implementing an effective information quality program. FTI personnel also supported efforts of the Data Management Forum, a cross-organization group dedicated to cooperative efforts to standardize and improve business information quality across the corporation. The Single Family information quality program served as a corporate model and received high ratings from regulatory authorities.
- Project Enterprise Data Quality Improvement - The goal of this program was to improve the data quality contained within Project Enterprise, a key integrated business initiative. FTI personnel provided subject matter expertise in evaluating the concept of "Data Quality", developed a set of 11 metrics for measuring and evaluating data quality, recommended one metric (business data consistency) as the initial area of program focus, and developed and delivered both documents and briefings containing this program guidance. FTI personnel worked with cross-organizational teams on an ongoing basis to identify, resolve, and prevent process problems causing business data consistency issues.
- Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) Development - Identified CDW requirements for making complex business and financial data widely available to corporate users; translating requirements into SQL tables; verifying software business functionality; and developing User Acceptance Test plans. FTI staff performed software and database design, development and scripting, programming, testing, maintenance and support in IBM’s DB2 and Microsoft Access relational DBMSs, Microsoft Office programs, MicroStrategy Data Warehouse tools, and various scripting languages under Windows, UNIX, and VM/CMS operating systems.
- Management Reporting - Process Improvement and Ongoing Operational Support - Management reporting effort supported business operations at the group, division, and corporate level. FTI personnel conducted work planning and reporting activities, worked with group managers to develop or refine standard templates and reports for presenting key business information, and compiled, coordinated approval on, and distributed regularly-scheduled business reports.
